[2011/03/18 08:50] Stingray9798 Raymaker: The 2011 Relay For Life of Second Life fundraising season kicked off on March 12 with more than 90 teams of 3,000+ participants signed up. We have a new committee of volunteers who have worked on adapting to the changes that LL has presented ove the years. We re embracing the changes and I have challenged all of our volunteers to find ways to leverage the changes, rather than to view them as obstacles.
[2011/03/18 08:51] Stingray9798 Raymaker: We constantly monitor trends in Second Life, as well as the response to LL increasing prices for nonprfit land rental. The American Cancer Society is exploring new opportunities in other virtual worlds, but there are certainly many considerations when determining which provides the most opportunity for impact.
[2011/03/18 08:51] Stingray9798 Raymaker: We've added to our support programs in Second Life this year, with a new Cancer Survivor Support group for men only: Man vs. Cancer
[2011/03/18 08:51] Stingray9798 Raymaker: It allows men to discuss the affects of cancer treatment in a male-only environment, where they are more comfortable speaking (and hearing) about the more 'sensitive' affects of cancer treatment.

Because --- yes --- relay for life is INTERNATIONAL! Round 20 countries worldwide hold Relay For Life events in real life.

Last year we had people from over 30 real life countries participating in fundraising and walking the track at Relay weekend in Second Life to raise money to support the American Cancer Society in the important work it does to support cancer research and provide education an support.

[2011/03/18 08:56] Poppy Zabelin: Relay For Life of Second Life (RFL of SL) is an annual activity that takes place in Second Life in July each year.
[2011/03/18 08:56] Poppy Zabelin: Volunteers form or join teams to have fun while fundraising and raising awareness from mid-March through mid-July.
[2011/03/18 08:56] Poppy Zabelin: In July teams build campsites and walk a track, just like in a Real World Relay. This year’s event will be held over the weekend of July 16-17.
[2011/03/18 08:57] Poppy Zabelin: In 2010, Relay For Life of Second Life raised over $222,000 real American dollars for the American Cancer Society, and this year our Event Chair MamaP Beerbaum and our American Cancer Society representative Jeff Montegut (Stingray9798 RayMaker) have set our target at $300,000!
