Friday, February 7th, TechSoup’s NonProfit Commons in Second Life will be recognizing National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day.
National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day is a nationwide HIV/AIDS testing and treatment community mobilization initiative designed to encourage people across the United States to get educated, get tested, get involved and get treated around HIV/AIDS, as it continues to devastate Black communities http://nationalblackaidsday.org
“AIDS continues to claim the lives of too many African American men and women. Blacks account for almost half of all those have died from AIDS in the United States since the beginning of the epidemic. African American youth continue to be one of the groups most severely affected by HIV infection in the United States. In fact, black youth represent more than half (57%) of all new HIV infections among young people aged 13 to 24. These numbers underscore the need to reach a new generation with effective HIV prevention programs and messages. We simply cannot afford to lose the next generation to this potentially deadly, but preventable disease.”
