This Friday, April 5th at 8:30 AM PDT/SLT we will be meeting at Nonprofit Commons  Amphitheater in Second Life then heading over to the 12th Annual Virtual Worlds Best Practices in Education Conference for the Keynote with Dr. Tuncer Can at 9:00 AM SLT. 

Tuncer Can is no stranger to the vLanguages community, a VWBPE 2019 partner. His most recent collaboration with vLanguages is GUINEVERE, an EU Commission funded language learning project. An exploration of the GUINEVERE project in OpenSim will be offered as an Immersive Experience after the conference. Astronauts and DNA for the March 8th Nonprofit Commons Meeting

This Friday, March 8th, the Nonprofit Commons in Second Life features Shannon Bohle (Archivist Llewellyn in Second Life) presenting on “Astronauts and DNA: Twin Studies are Just the Beginning”, with the help of Plutchik – a chatbot-based artificial intelligence capable of fully autonomous lecture presentations. The presentation will cover the topic of epigenetics and looks closely at NASA’s recent Twins Study featuring Mark Kelly and Scott Kelly where NASA inadvertently spread fake news about epigenetics across a range of national media. The lecture explains NASA’s error and corrects it. 
 
Shannon holds a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science. She was a finalist for the Linden Prize in 2010 for creating and directing the Neil A. Armstrong Library and Archives.

Touring the Health Hacienda for the March 1st Nonprofit Commons Meeting

This Friday, March 1st, the Nonprofit Commons in Second Life features Elisabeth Jacobsen Marrapodi / Brielle Coronet leading a field trip to the Health Hacienda at Whole Brain Health at 8:30 AM SLT.
 
Brielle is a Medical Librarian at a teaching hospital in New Jersey, USA with over 30 years of experience. With a small NLM grant and IRB approval, she created interactive quizzes in SL about various health topics to help improve health literacy. She has also published “Improving Health Information Literacy with Games in the Virtual World of Second Life“ including a textbook chapter and an article in Journal of Consumer Health on the Internet about this project.

Understanding Lag in Virtual Worlds for the February 1st Nonprofit Commons Meeting

Too Laggy? On Friday, February 1 at 8:30 AM SLT at the Nonprofit Commons in Second Life Weekly Meeting for a presentation by Bluezy Bleac on “Lag and how to deal with it”. Bluezy has been part of the Firestorm Viewer Support Team longer than there has been Firestorm and has been teaching about it and the grid for nearly 8 years. She will be explaining the three types of lag we encounter in Second Life, the reasons behind each, and possible solutions for each of them. 

 

Also, Gentle Heron will be presenting “Prepare Now for Your Year-End Review“ for NPC Mentor Central during the meeting.
