[09:08] Rhiannon Chatnoir: ish
[09:08] Beth Ghostraven: feel free to friend me too :o)
[09:09] Rhiannon Chatnoir: What has drive Path’s focus on virtual worlds is always the people
[09:09] Rhiannon Chatnoir things same
[09:09] Rhiannon Chatnoir: he has talked about perceptually immersive worlds and how they tickle your brain in a way that makes it seem that we all have this collective sense of space
[09:09] Rhiannon Chatnoir: but it is the social ties and the people that is they key thing
[09:09] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and why he friends everyone
[09:10] Rhiannon Chatnoir: the idea of connecting with friends over time
[09:10] Shiloh Emmons: yes
[09:10] Inquisitive Loon: Yes
[09:10] Beth Ghostraven: I’ve been doing that a lot lately
[09:10] Sitearm (sitearm.madonna): y
[09:10] Siri Vezina: yes!
[09:10] Valibrarian Gregg: Absolutely!
[09:10] Loff Auer: yesssssss
[09:10] Rhiannon Chatnoir: you have all been making connections in the last ocuple of months people that have come back in world
[09:10] Firery Broome: y
[09:10] Ludova (quippe.wylder): More like five years
[09:10] Elli Pinion: yes!
[09:10] Delia Lake: yes, a lot of those folks
[09:10] Rhiannon Chatnoir: that you might not have seen online in worlds
[09:10] Buffy Beale: yes been seeing people like…. you hahah
[09:10] Shiloh Emmons: I am establishing a science lecture a friend is back online
[09:10] Ozma Malibu: yep
[09:10] Gentle Heron: People are reappearing, and new people are appearing. A few are disappearing, sadly.
[09:10] Delia Lake: yes 10 years!
[09:10] Loff Auer: 13 years even
[09:10] Beth Ghostraven: Path, you’re one of those people who has popped up recently :p
[09:10] Lyr Lobo grins
[09:10] Rhiannon Chatnoir: that is the magic of people connecting.. their reconnecting
[09:10] Rhiannon Chatnoir: we all take differing paths and diverge
[09:11] Rhiannon Chatnoir: but that they can converge back – the connection is till there
[09:11] Lost Traveler (jaywick.forcella): I’m proof of that!
[09:11] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and beautiful to think how people have been restablishing thse connections
[09:11] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes!
[09:11] Rhiannon Chatnoir: online communities how can we keep connections with people over time
[09:11] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and across platforms
[09:11] Rhiannon Chatnoir: how can we intgrate those
[09:12] Rhiannon Chatnoir thinks about that all the time too
[09:12] Rhiannon Chatnoir: now on to the story…
[09:12] Rhiannon Chatnoir: when John left LLl in 2010
[09:12] Rhiannon Chatnoir: working in virtual worlds, using things like Unity
[09:12] Lyr Lobo: Reaction Grid and JIBE
[09:12] Rhiannon Chatnoir: on a company called Reaction Grid
[09:12] Rhiannon Chatnoir: it lasted for a bit, but business / economy evolved that
[09:13] Rhiannon Chatnoir: many folks might know Reaction grid from their work in Open Simulator
[09:13] Rhiannon Chatnoir: what he learned from that, was the idea of people, and how bubble worlds aren’t great
[09:13] Rhiannon Chatnoir: He spent a lot of time in OpenSim and how people connected
[09:13] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and things like the Hypergrid adventurers grid
[09:13] Mal Burns (malburns.writer): yay hypergrid
[09:14] Loff Auer: Opensim is great and affordable but still feels bubble
[09:14] Beth Ghostraven: I can’t quite figure out how to connect with people in OpenSim if I don’t already know them from SL
[09:14] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and how that even crossed through into SL and connection of worlds
[09:14] Valibrarian Gregg: We have a Hypergrid Resource Library in Kitely!  Need to network with the SL group
[09:14] Rhiannon Chatnoir: how your social connections move through various worlds
[09:14] Marylou Goldrosen: Lots of teaching kids how to build animal installations on Opensim!
[09:14] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and in OpenSimulator how you can keep those connnections though you travel, meet and friend in varying grids
[09:15] Gentle Heron: That the social connections are not tied to a particular virtual world shows how REAL those connections are.
[09:15] Rhiannon Chatnoir: then Pathfinder went on to study broader information and content
[09:15] Rhiannon Chatnoir: he spent some time out of virtual wolrds
[09:15] Rhiannon Chatnoir: he spent some time in financial tech
[09:15] Rhiannon Chatnoir: doing work and connect directly
[09:16] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and all of this a thread of connecting people together, through technology
[09:16] Rhiannon Chatnoir: … but then COVID happened
[09:16] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and what was fascinating…
[09:16] Rhiannon Chatnoir: though of course pain and suffering…
[09:16] Rhiannon Chatnoir: it caught his eye that he had been part of all of these conversations like
[09:16] Rhiannon Chatnoir: … wouldn’t it be nice to try to do something online.. BUT
[09:17] Rhiannon Chatnoir: often not pushing forward with some orgs, busiensses, schools,
[09:17] Rhiannon Chatnoir: that there was interest but not working towards that
[09:17] Coughran Mayo: Everybody loves you when they need your bomb shelter
[09:17] Rhiannon Chatnoir: but all of suddent.. everyone had to be online
[09:17] Gentle Heron: Yes Coughran!
[09:17] Rhiannon Chatnoir: told that you would have to communicate and work online
[09:17] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so not evolving things like curriculum or work practices
[09:18] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so the common process of things.. that now had to just do it!
[09:18] Oronoque Westland: People made to do crisis learning mis-named as online learning
[09:18] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and all of the students that spent time learning and socializing in person
[09:18] Rhiannon Chatnoir: but now.. go home! you can’t stay here
[09:18] Shiloh Emmons: Path, I think people like you.. AM Radio… were some of the first innovators
[09:18] Rhiannon Chatnoir: work places going home.. do it online
[09:18] Rhiannon Chatnoir: mind blowing
[09:19] Shiloh Emmons: and even Ira Flatlow with science friday..
[09:19] Buffy Beale: my middle-school teacher friend had a weekend to figure out how to get courses online….
[09:19] Rhiannon Chatnoir: it is an equation of the people involved throughout all areas of an org, school, business
[09:19] Rhiannon Chatnoir: not just taking one part into using online
[09:19] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and thinking.. this will be interesting to watch
[09:20] Shelenn Ayres: WFAnywhere is better than WFHome
[09:20] Rhiannon Chatnoir: one thing … people are going to grab to what is easiest to float
[09:20] Rhiannon Chatnoir: that would be Zoom
[09:20] Rhiannon Chatnoir: 😛
[09:20] Shelenn Ayres is anti-zoom
[09:20] Elli Pinion: %-\
[09:20] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes
[09:20] Rhiannon Chatnoir: Zoom has been around for 10 years, from a person who was part of Webex
[09:21] DeeDeeBeaker: lol
[09:21] Inquisitive Loon: Cisco WebEx is also easy to use.
[09:21] Namaara MacMoragh: su[er easy for business not our current use
[09:21] Marylou Goldrosen: Teaching at the University courses- ZOOMED to death!
[09:21] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and how that easiness of use
[09:21] Delia Lake has been using zoom since it’s beginning
[09:21] Windy Schor: Webex is *now*
[09:21] Sitearm (sitearm.madonna): our school system uses it
[09:21] Rhiannon Chatnoir: now the world has picked up on using it, it has almost become ubiquitous
[09:22] Sitearm (sitearm.madonna): luckily our school system has IT bureaucracysecuritysupremacy
[09:22] Rhiannon Chatnoir: the security issues are because of in makiing it as easy to use, they took some approaches that made it less secure
[09:22] Loff Auer: On a PC you dont need to register, just clck and no account, no data open
[09:22] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so what happens when you put all your weight on one floatation device
[09:22] Rhiannon Chatnoir: you are at first happy cause it saved your live
[09:22] Inquisitive Loon: u sink.
[09:22] Oronoque Westland: Save your life or all drown together
[09:22] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and if you look at press, you would see at first that excitement
[09:23] Rhiannon Chatnoir: then you realize the limitations
[09:23] Loff Auer: Im barred from regular teaching work and zero support from Gov, 2,5 months – use Zoom now but is 10 X less Income – really trying to work on SL, anyone needs an employee ??? Add me, who knows…
[09:23] Lyr Lobo: and Zoom increased security in the latest version (5.03) released May 19th *grins*
[09:23] Rhiannon Chatnoir: it took weeks, but then things like zoom fatigue
[09:23] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and drowning in zoom meetings
[09:24] Rhiannon Chatnoir: all of this has played out quickly
[09:24] Mal Burns (malburns.writer): zoombies – is tyhat a name?
[09:24] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and this set off lights in Pathfinders brain
[09:24] Rhiannon Chatnoir: he has heard this before
[09:24] Sitearm (sitearm.madonna): yes about second life
[09:24] Rhiannon Chatnoir: though unique since it is everyone
[09:24] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so it is useful, but there is something that isn’t speaking to your humanity
[09:24] DeeDeeBeaker: big brother zoom
[09:24] Rhiannon Chatnoir: like eating too much sweets
[09:25] Stranger Nightfire: sense of separation instead of presence
[09:25] Valibrarian Gregg: lol Zoom is like eating Twinkies – love it
[09:25] Loff Auer: and you cant be on your pijamas like you may be know here, lol
[09:25] Delia Lake: Rhi, I remember that talk too 🙂
[09:25] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and how in some ways we are bound by our biology in some ways
[09:25] Rhiannon Chatnoir: sweets ar great, but you need more
[09:26] Oronoque Westland: Deep fried Twinkies?
[09:26] Inquisitive Loon: Twinkies … are … evil.
[09:26] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so video conferences are great, but it needs more
[09:26] Rhiannon Chatnoir: two things missing
[09:26] Valibrarian Gregg: Understand totally-  Zoom has taken over everywhere. An elderly woman asked me to download it for her yesterday
[09:26] Rhiannon Chatnoir: one is a lack of a sense of place
[09:26] Delia Lake: missing is what Zinnia said earlier — no hugs there
[09:26] Rhiannon Chatnoir: best you get is adding a zoom background
[09:26] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so you have a sense of being connected to each other
[09:26] Rhiannon Chatnoir: but not being WITH them
[09:26] Rhiannon Chatnoir: looks like a beehiave
[09:27] Rhiannon Chatnoir: like in your own cell.. looking out at you
[09:27] Lyr Lobo: yes Hollywood Squares *grins*
[09:27] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes!
[09:27] Oronoque Westland: But I’m a Queen Bee host
[09:27] Rhiannon Chatnoir: like digital cubicles
[09:27] Mal Burns (malburns.writer): have u seen Philip’s new incarnation of hifi?
[09:27] Rhiannon Chatnoir: when you brain can’t figure that sense of place out
[09:27] Rhiannon Chatnoir: it grasps at straws for where it is happening
[09:27] ThinkererSelby Evans (thinkerer.melville): the talking heads have no realistic place
[09:27] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and part of that exhaustion is part of that it is seems you are with an audince all the time
[09:28] Rhiannon Chatnoir: going from meeting to meeting
[09:28] Rhiannon Chatnoir: marching through your space
[09:28] Beth Ghostraven: .
[09:28] Rhiannon Chatnoir: breaking down that private space
[09:28] Ava Dougall: agree with you Rhi
[09:28] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so lack of space has a devastating effect
[09:28] Rhiannon Chatnoir: not speaking to  your core humanness
[09:28] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and need for sense of place and need
[09:28] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes
[09:28] Mook Wheeler: this is a VERY important research point
[09:29] Rhiannon Chatnoir: compare the 40ish people here and know you are in this sense of place here versus a video conference
[09:29] Delia Lake: yes memories of place in sl is also very important
[09:29] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes
[09:29] Shiloh Emmons: zoom misses the social connection
[09:29] Rhiannon Chatnoir: the idea fo memories in place is key
[09:29] Rhiannon Chatnoir: the other thing is…
[09:29] Valibrarian Gregg: We all are sharing the same place here- a real place…not just viewing the separate physical locations
[09:29] Loff Auer: and you still have more privacy, on SL your Avi is here for you
[09:30] DeeDeeBeaker: yes
[09:30] Rhiannon Chatnoir: an interesting effect from people who do everything online
[09:30] Rhiannon Chatnoir: working, communicating with coworkers, meetings
[09:30] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and he would check in with other son that
[09:30] Rhiannon Chatnoir: that they expected the challenge of work life from personal life
[09:30] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and finding that balance
[09:30] Mook Wheeler thinks the fact that you have 50 pairs of eyes “focused” on you in Zoom probably adds to the exhaustion too. Here in SL that ‘eye-contact’ is not detrimental
[09:30] Rhiannon Chatnoir: a common thing
[09:30] Rhiannon Chatnoir: figuring out your routine
[09:31] Rhiannon Chatnoir: finding those boundaries
[09:31] Lyr Lobo: gruesome
[09:31] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and that they have never had such a structured day before.. going from meeting to meeting
[09:31] Rhiannon Chatnoir: it is all structured
[09:31] Beth Ghostraven: same here
[09:31] Lyr Lobo: cognitive breaks
[09:31] Rhiannon Chatnoir: that it seems weird
[09:32] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and fundamentally missing serendpitious moments while going from one to another
[09:32] Bob-e (bob.hensley): same person that thought we hardly needed to meet monthly now seems we need to meet twice a week…
[09:32] Lyr Lobo: the transitions are lacking
[09:32] Beth Ghostraven: I got upset yesterday because I made time to go to another Zoom meeting and couldn’t get a word in edgewise
[09:32] Delia Lake: serendipitous meet ups is one of the real joys of sl
[09:32] Lyr Lobo: when click to enter the next meeting
[09:32] Rhiannon Chatnoir: everything is transactional
[09:32] Beth Ghostraven: Delia, yes, the watercooler effect
[09:33] Rhiannon Chatnoir: zoom and other video confrencing makes it easy to schedule
[09:33] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and htose moments in between were gone
[09:33] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so conversations in the in betweens gone
[09:33] Rhiannon Chatnoir: the chemistry of the unexpected
[09:33] Mook Wheeler: those intersitial moments help reset your brain
[09:33] Rhiannon Chatnoir: has been removed
[09:33] Eyeclectic: People Eye work with just fall silent when Eye refer to Second Life! Eye say, “You can say Eye’m out there, or come fly (you can do that) with me!” : )
[09:33] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so lack of sense of place and sheltered from serendipity
[09:33] ThinkererSelby Evans (thinkerer.melville): “the water-cooler effect”
[09:34] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so then he started logging in more to virtual worlds like SL
[09:34] Mook Wheeler: yes Thinkerer!
[09:34] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and he started to talk to Rueben Steiger and other folks
[09:34] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and what they realized.. the group starting around Billions of Us
[09:34] Eyeclectic: Creating Space for Serendipity is most !mportant!
[09:34] Rhiannon Chatnoir: there is a sense of urgency
[09:35] Rhiannon Chatnoir: from working through this crisis, but also one of suffering by not using toolks that speak to their humanity
[09:35] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and missing that serendipity
[09:35] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and happening right now all around us
[09:35] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and what can we do to solve that
[09:36] Rhiannon Chatnoir: there i a lot of personal suffering, a lot by people beying unemployed, not being able to be/work together
[09:36] Rhiannon Chatnoir: that came to convos about “what can w do about this”
[09:37] Rhiannon Chatnoir: .. now a buddhist story.. of a deer shot by an arrow lying dying
[09:37] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and 3 monks talking on it
[09:37] Rhiannon Chatnoir: one on how the beauty of the cycle of life and death
[09:37] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and then one on the sense of self and is a deer less of a creature than man
[09:37] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and then the buddhist goes.. i am just going to take the arrow out
[09:37] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and then we can discuss this more
[09:38] Rhiannon Chatnoir: to stop the suffering
[09:38] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and the idea of “taking the arrow out of the deer”
[09:38] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and what works right now to help
[09:38] Rhiannon Chatnoir: a platform that is more malleable
[09:38] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and building community
[09:38] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and help orgs
[09:38] Ava Dougall: 🙂 <3
[09:39] Ludova (quippe.wylder): YES!
[09:39] Rhiannon Chatnoir: lolk
[09:39] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so we need to sort, what can we do now..
[09:39] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so the Billions of Us team realized Second Life is the place
[09:40] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and they are working with about 40 different orgs
[09:40] Rhiannon Chatnoir: setting up land and thinking on the future of coworking
[09:40] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and a lot of these business might have no experience with virtual wolrds at all
[09:40] Lyr Lobo: great!
[09:40] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and help them recognize the use of these spaces
[09:41] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so unlike some earlier projects of just putting out a build and doing PR splash
[09:41] Xanshin Paz: we tend to think everyone knows about SL, but it’s penetration ( if you will) is really very shallow
[09:41] Rhiannon Chatnoir: but orgs that are feeling pain and need a way forward to sort how to work and interact in the now COVID world
[09:41] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and their goal to restore their sense of place
[09:42] Beth Ghostraven: there’s all kinds of surprise in virtual worlds!
[09:42] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so the idea of not just building a space, but integrating a community
[09:42] Ava Dougall: yes
[09:42] Buffy Beale: That is so great, Path and much needed in SL
[09:42] Rhiannon Chatnoir: initially with those within the space, and then with thouse in greater SL
[09:42] Loff Auer: I see SL as Infinite Possibilities and here is where people and resources really are
[09:42] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and that is what has driven in Second Life
[09:42] Rhiannon Chatnoir: there are many organizations that do exist like this
[09:43] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and they want to help bring in folks like that over time
[09:43] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and they are working as a business
[09:43] Lyr Lobo: Wonderful!
[09:43] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so they want to cultivate their clients and then expose them to others like Nonprofit Commons, VWBPE, etc
[09:43] Buffy Beale: Very exciting!
[09:44] Rhiannon Chatnoir: mental health, etc
[09:44] Lyr Lobo: world building with a sense of place as a starting point
[09:44] Rhiannon Chatnoir: they are doing this in SL because it can scale over time
[09:44] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and thinking that over time, they are thinking on VR headsets
[09:44] Gentle Heron: The best place to start providing service to individuals is where those individuals are.
[09:44] Rhiannon Chatnoir: me too Path
[09:45] Rhiannon Chatnoir waves to her HTC vive
[09:45] Lyr Lobo: yes *grins*
[09:45] Xanshin Paz: oh man….quick wa yto get motion sickness
[09:45] Eric Rice: 🙂
[09:45] Eric Rice: i adore my quest
[09:45] Rhiannon Chatnoir: but you can look at things like Oculus Quest, which is an iphone of VR
[09:45] Loff Auer: helmets are coll for 20 mins not to stay Inworld really evolving and developing a life
[09:45] Rhiannon Chatnoir: you do not have to a phone or computer to use, no wires
[09:45] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and looking at those tools and other platforms help other organizations
[09:46] Rhiannon Chatnoir: like Virbella, Sinespace, altspace VR, VR chat
[09:46] Xanshin Paz: Leap Motion pioneered controller-less VR interaction
[09:46] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and maybe custom things
[09:46] Rhiannon Chatnoir: but the core of that is the people and social / community interactions
[09:46] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and how to build connections between these various technologies
[09:46] Rhiannon Chatnoir: that connection of friends and identity throughout
[09:46] Rhiannon Chatnoir: the METAVERSE
[09:47] Valibrarian Gregg: yes-  lots of misunderstanding about VR  (I am going to speak in AltspaceVR soon)  Pioneers of virtual worlds can help explain and connect
[09:47] Lyr Lobo grins
[09:47] Rhiannon Chatnoir: environments that speak to your humanity
[09:47] Lyr Lobo: how we use the spaces
[09:47] Rhiannon Chatnoir: nod
[09:48] Valibrarian Gregg: Finding the best tool for each purpose
[09:48] Rhiannon Chatnoir: they are not building custom platforms but connecting people and projects throughout
[09:48] Zinnia Zauber: It is all about the base.
[09:48] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and that focus of what can we do right now
[09:48] Rhiannon Chatnoir: not losing serendipity
[09:48] Rhiannon Chatnoir: connecting in a human way
[09:48] Valibrarian Gregg: SL still lives!  (my VR headset makes me love SL even more)
[09:48] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes Val
[09:48] Rhiannon Chatnoir: 🙂
[09:49] Sitearm (sitearm.madonna): QUESTION: What platforms will BOU be on this year ?
[09:49] Rhiannon Chatnoir: that idea of leveraging all these platforms
[09:49] Rhiannon Chatnoir: nod
[09:49] Lyr Lobo: great!  What do you need?
[09:49] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes
[09:49] Beth Ghostraven: Val, is that like “the more people I meet, the more I love my dog”?
[09:49] Valibrarian Gregg: SO glad your are still here Pathfinder!
[09:49] Rhiannon Chatnoir: things like support for mesh is huge
[09:49] Buffy Beale: SL has been plugging along waiting for you Path 🙂
[09:49] Loff Auer: Maybe the cloudservers make less lag
[09:49] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and expanding support for live streaming
[09:49] Valibrarian Gregg: yes-  We could use a presentation here on MESH 🙂
[09:49] Elli Pinion: y
[09:50] Beragon Betts raises hand
[09:50] Lyr Lobo: Shivering Truth content in beta
[09:50] Lyr Lobo: will be built in – amazing stuff
[09:50] Lyr Lobo: unlike the horrors of QuickTime streaming
[09:50] Lyr Lobo: open
[09:50] Lyr Lobo: hehe any questions?
[09:50] Beragon Betts: I went to shivering truth °͜°
[09:50] Rhiannon Chatnoir: if anyone has questions
[09:50] Sitearm (sitearm.madonna): QUESTION: What platforms will BOU be on this year ?
[09:50] Cilian (cilian.mccullough): Wonderful vision, but, wow, if anything it has become even more difficult for noobs in SL! It’s got to be easier if the penetration mentioned is to improve…
[09:50] Rhiannon Chatnoir: we can take a few quick one
[09:50] Sitearm (sitearm.madonna): ty
[09:50] Lyr Lobo: What do you need, Pathfinder, from the community?
[09:51] Beragon Betts: ;wears plushie
[09:51] Rhiannon Chatnoir: my QUESTION – when and how can many of us here also focused on building/supporting online community help out/be part
[09:51] Ava Dougall: true, Cilian
[09:51] Loff Auer: QUESTION – do you have an SL board where people can leave permanent notes so common interests find eachother ?
[09:51] Valibrarian Gregg: I just heard there is a reunion for ISTE (from way back in SL on June 27-28…prob more info to come
[09:52] Beth Ghostraven: Val, yes, coming up
[09:52] Lyr Lobo: After Billions of Us officially launches
[09:52] Sitearm (sitearm.madonna): @Val cool
[09:52] Lyr Lobo: with a revamped website
[09:52] Lyr Lobo: and a Facebook group to join
[09:52] Rhiannon Chatnoir: it would be great to tour the Billions of Us space too
[09:52] Rhiannon Chatnoir: I think a few of us here ar part of the Facebook group and you can look to there
[09:52] Beth Ghostraven: is the BoU space open to visitors? if so, could you share out the LM for it?
[09:52] Valibrarian Gregg: CVL is starting a spreadsheet to help people network and learn in virtual spaces.  Pathfinders office hours is on it!  https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12Q3CUF1gQ1ua8EGWOuVeFOp9w-DBEI0j73fx_jP5Y60/edit?usp=sharing
[09:52] Lyr Lobo: be part of the conversation in their Facebook group
[09:52] Valibrarian Gregg: YOUR office hours can be added-  IM me or Elli
[09:52] Zinnia Zauber: Will you be using a lot of the resources that are already build to help support your efforts?
[09:52] Lyr Lobo: he’s getting the link
[09:52] Mal Burns (malburns.writer): you need a discord server – better than the facebook or slack
[09:53] Lyr Lobo: An amazing connector of people and Val’s CVL spreadsheet for virtual spaces
[09:53] Valibrarian Gregg: I am going to present here at NPC on the spreadsheet next month!!!
[09:53] Lyr Lobo grins at Mal
[09:53] Beth Ghostraven: QUESTION: is the BoU space open to visitors? if so, could you share out the LM for it?
[09:53] Lyr Lobo: Path is hosting office hours again
[09:53] Lyr Lobo: the Science Circle folks offered space for his Wednesday off hours
[09:53] Lyr Lobo: what time, Pathfinder?
[09:54] Lyr Lobo: great!
[09:54] Rhiannon Chatnoir: we have an AvaCon discord server and have channels for various virtual worlds and projects if people are interested in chatting there https://discord.gg/DZzdQXQ
[09:54] Shiloh Emmons: no he changed his hours
[09:54] Rhiannon Chatnoir: that link is for office hours for Pathfinder
[09:54] Lyr Lobo: 10am Pacific – thinking of moving it as it conflicts with Drax’s
[09:54] Buffy Beale: Drax is changing his time to start at noon
[09:54] Shiloh Emmons: He is changing to Noon
[09:54] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes
[09:54] Eric Rice: Noon SLT?
[09:54] Sitearm (sitearm.madonna): yes move it do not conflict book club it is growing big
[09:54] Lyr Lobo chuckles
[09:54] Shiloh Emmons: Noon on Wednesdays
[09:54] Beth Ghostraven: Shiloh, that’s great!
[09:54] Buffy Beale: noon for the Draxtor BookClub
[09:54] Rhiannon Chatnoir: any other questions?
[09:54] Lyr Lobo: Draxtor is moving to Nooon
[09:54] Shiloh Emmons: nono
[09:54] Buffy Beale: nooooo
[09:54] Lyr Lobo: yes
[09:54] Shiloh Emmons: Drax is going to Noon
[09:54] Lyr Lobo: Drax is
[09:54] Shiloh Emmons: yes
[09:54] Rhiannon Chatnoir: lol
[09:54] Lyr Lobo: to noon

[09:54] Mal Burns (malburns.writer): drax is chabging too lol

[09:55] Lyr Lobo laughs
[09:55] Lyr Lobo: Thank you, Pathfinder! *grins*

[09:55] Lyr Lobo: Always so great to see you and hear of  these wonderful developments
[09:55] Rhiannon Chatnoir: he has a  lot of convos with Ebbe Alteberg CEO of LL
[09:55] Buffy Beale: It’s been so great to have you back Path, you’re like a breath of fresh air and were always such a great advocate the good in SL
[09:55] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and his perspective is wonderful
[09:56] Shelenn Ayres: Thanks for the comments and company 🙂
[09:56] Lyr Lobo: I’ll be teaching my 53rd University class in world and love it
[09:56] Lyr Lobo: hehe
[09:56] Shelenn Ayres: congrats Lyr!
[09:56] Lyr Lobo: early days are unsexy
[09:56] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and projects like migrating things to the cloud is spot on
[09:56] Lyr Lobo: thanks, Shel! *hugs*
[09:56] Rhiannon Chatnoir: maybe not sexy but neccessary
[09:56] Mal Burns (malburns.writer): i laughed when they said thias week they had no land left
[09:56] Lyr Lobo: been teaching online since 2001
[09:56] Mal Burns (malburns.writer): pending AWS
[09:56] Buffy Beale: yes Mal!
[09:57] Rhiannon Chatnoir: moving to AWS with give so much flexibility and scaling
[09:57] Lyr Lobo: hehe
[09:57] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so not only LL but projects can scale up quickly
[09:57] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and offer stability
[09:57] Lyr Lobo: yes
[09:57] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes
[09:57] Lyr Lobo: Live media streaming is huge
[09:57] Rhiannon Chatnoir: I agree
[09:57] Rhiannon Chatnoir: I can tell you with hosting countless events over the years that it is needed
[09:58] Marylou Goldrosen: Just interviewed Drax for our National Education Conference: How the Virtual Ability Community Connects, Creates, Documents, and Distribute Disability Successes
[09:58] Lyr Lobo: YouTube live *chuckles*  will be wonderful for bridging communities and curating sessinos
[09:58] Rhiannon Chatnoir: you can check that out in the special beta viewer they put out for that event
[09:58] Buffy Beale: do you have a link for that Rhi?
[09:58] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes Lyr, mixed reality but together
[09:59] Loff Auer: U bet
[09:59] Delia Lake: yes, Lyr I will like that mixed reality too
[09:59] Lyr Lobo: Many thanks, Pathfinder, and great to see Eric and the team! *grins*  Join us again – we want to bridge with you *grins*

[09:59] Windy Schor: Best thing I’ve done to help noobs: duolingo lessons
[09:59] Loff Auer: 🙂
[09:59] Beth Ghostraven: this community doesn’t need reminding to be kind, but we can remind others to
[09:59] Lyr Lobo: So great to see you!
[10:00] Rhiannon Chatnoir: there are a lot of hurting folks via loss and human interaction/ connection
[10:00] Rhiannon Chatnoir: there is a buddhist saying
[10:00] Rhiannon Chatnoir: the student asks the maser.. i am discourage, what should i do, and the master says.. encourage others
[10:00] Beth Ghostraven: good advice
[10:00] Elli Pinion: Wisdom and group works toward that!

[10:15] Ham Sandwich : Mmmm, a ham sandwich with lettuce and mustard, Delia Lake!
[10:15] Delia Lake: need to go get lunch. know when I’m thinking a sandwich in sl might stave off hunger that it’s really time to eat
[10:16] Delia Lake: bye 🙂
[10:16] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes
[10:16] Windy Schor thinking about the talking ham sandwich in Muppets From Space.

MENTORS MEETING CHAT:
See additional notecard.

[10:20] Zinnia Zauber: Thank you again for joining us for the NPC Mentors Meeting!
[10:21] Zinnia Zauber: I am sorry that I have missed several meetings do to my duties at the college.
[10:21] Zinnia Zauber: It has been a busy time and this week is advising week, so several students are waiting in the wings for help. 🙂
[10:21] Rhiannon Chatnoir: thanks ZInnia.. back to you
[10:21] Zinnia Zauber: But, right now, we are here to help you.
[10:22] Zinnia Zauber: As mentioned before, our NPC Mentors are here to assist new folks to the NPC community.
[10:22] Zinnia Zauber: We also help  produce community events
[10:22] Zinnia Zauber: like our current Art Walk
[10:22] Windy Schor: Who’s new? /me puts fangs away.
[10:22] Zinnia Zauber: and upcoming SL Birthday event
[10:23] Zinnia Zauber: We are outreach as well
[10:23] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes
[10:23] Zinnia Zauber: Buffy?
[10:23] Windy Schor: Does SLB mean this is a featured destination? I forget how those work.
[10:23] Zinnia Zauber: There are several exhibitions
[10:24] Zinnia Zauber: and you can apply to be one on the destination page
[10:24] Buffy Beale: yes Z?
[10:24] Zinnia Zauber: we have been featured several times
[10:24] Rhiannon Chatnoir: some years we have even put together a series of curated presentaitons for SLB
[10:24] Zinnia Zauber: Buffy, you mentioned something about encouraging folks to add NPC to their picks.
[10:25] Zinnia Zauber: This is a wonderful suggestion!
[10:25] Rhiannon Chatnoir: I think now is a great time to remind folks of that
[10:25] Zinnia Zauber: That way when people review your Profile they can see it.
[10:25] Zinnia Zauber: Did you want to say more about that, Buffy?
[10:25] Buffy Beale: yes, I was going to say Z that at the beginning of the meeting to ask everyone to add NPC in their Picks and be sure to like our Facebook page https://facebook.com/nonprofitcommons
[10:26] Buffy Beale: that’s it Z, just a bit of promotion to encourage folks to like and add us 🙂
[10:26] Ava Dougall: sorry how do you do that? (add to Picks?)
[10:27] Buffy Beale: easy peasy Ava…
[10:27] Inquisitive Loon: Heading out thanks, bye
[10:27] Buffy Beale: right click on your avatar… go to the picks tab… add new and save
[10:27] Zinnia Zauber: Please take care!
[10:27] Buffy Beale: bye Inquisitive, take care
[10:27] Inquisitive Loon: you too
[10:27] Zinnia Zauber: Thank you!
[10:27] Ava Dougall: take care Zinnia- thanks!
[10:27] Inquisitive Loon: poof
[10:28] Ozma Malibu: staying to see what’s happening and how I can get others interested
[10:29] Zinnia Zauber: Thank you, Ozma!
[10:29] Ava Dougall: hmmm thanks Buffy but when i right click I do not see a Picks tab
[10:29] Ozma Malibu: v small group!
[10:29] Buffy Beale: hiya Oz 🙂 I think it’s meetings like this that bring in others from different groups
[10:29] Buffy Beale: so one way is to invite people to present here 🙂
[10:29] Buffy Beale: oh,
[10:29] Buffy Beale: Ava hmmmm
[10:29] Ozma Malibu: yes this was certainly a draw and inspiring
[10:30] Buffy Beale: are you using the Second Life viewer or Firestorm Ava?
[10:30] Ava Dougall: still SL.. am going to change to Firestorm as this has not been working for me in so many ways
[10:30] Buffy Beale: You can also go to the top menu bar Avatar – Picks and add it there, it will use wherever you are at the time, so if you’re sitting here will add NPC
[10:30] Ava Dougall: have been meaning to
[10:31] Zinnia Zauber: You can also add links to your picks as well.
[10:31] Gentle Heron: Ava, click on PROFILE tab at the bottom. Then you will see your picks window and can edit your profile from there.
[10:31] Zinnia Zauber: Ludo, I think your mic is on.
[10:32] Ava Dougall: perfect that worked thanks!!
[10:32] Buffy Beale: yay!
[10:32] Zinnia Zauber: Yay!
[10:32] Zinnia Zauber: That is great!
[10:32] Zinnia Zauber: Thank you for helping Ava!
[10:32] Ava Dougall: was the Me tab on top upper left in my viewer
[10:33] Buffy Beale: I love when things are easy to do
[10:33] Zinnia Zauber: That is what mentorship is about!
[10:33] Buffy Beale: ok good Ava
[10:33] Rhiannon Chatnoir: I think we should all take a page from what Billions of us is doing and actively promote outwards NPC
[10:33] Buffy Beale: I agree Rhi but we really need the website either started over or updated
[10:33] Zinnia Zauber: I promote NPC on my social networks.
[10:33] Rhiannon Chatnoir: we invite people here to present.. but usually only talk about NPC specific in events like SLB and VWBPE, etc
[10:33] Rhiannon Chatnoir: nod i know Zinnia
[10:33] Buffy Beale: right now there’s broken links, old info and it doesn’t look good being out of date for so long
[10:34] Rhiannon Chatnoir: i meant in world
[10:34] Zinnia Zauber: True, Buffy.
[10:34] Ava Dougall: yes agreed about the website…. I’d like to introduce it to folks in my network but the website does not present updated information
[10:34] Zinnia Zauber: Yes, Ava.
[10:34] Buffy Beale: It’s been on our list for a long time Ava but for one reason or another was delayed
[10:34] Zinnia Zauber: It would be helpful to be able to document our meetings there as well.
[10:35] Buffy Beale: it’s not an easy task, for one reason
[10:35] Elli Pinion: I’m very happy to help, but websites are very personal…
[10:35] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes it will take time and many people’s time, both in the content wrangling part and the transfer if we want of old content
[10:35] Ava Dougall: also a simple list directory on there of the nonprofits that are currently active here?
[10:36] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes Ava
[10:36] Buffy Beale: because to keep some of the older important information will take a lot of time I believe
[10:36] Buffy Beale: Ava you can always look at the landing teleport boards
[10:36] Rhiannon Chatnoir: Can we add that to Board tasks to create an updated Google doc of orgs that we can use to share and content for the site
[10:37] Buffy Beale: I’m not sure what you mean Rhi
[10:37] Buffy Beale: orgs that are here inworld or others outside of NPC?
[10:37] Ava Dougall: I think important for people to be able to get a sense of what this is from ‘outside’ in order to make the commitment to come inworld
[10:37] Zinnia Zauber: Yes
[10:37] Rhiannon Chatnoir: well meaning, we have a spreadhseet the form data goes to, but would be4 good to have a list outside of SL of orgs involved.. easiest right now is to create a google doc
[10:37] Rhiannon Chatnoir: that doc could be shared out and is also useful for adding to the site
[10:38] Zinnia Zauber: Seems like the website would be the priority to have that list on it.
[10:38] Ava Dougall: yes as long as it is easy to access from the website if people visit there to get an understanding of NPC
[10:38] Buffy Beale: Luckily we have a board meeting coming up on Monday 🙂
[10:38] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes, but we need the content compiled first… somewhere and then can port to the site
[10:38] Zinnia Zauber: Yes, Buffy, good point!
[10:39] Rhiannon Chatnoir: better not to work on that live and we can do the google doc easily now
[10:39] Zinnia Zauber: We have volunteers who have offered to help.
[10:39] Buffy Beale: Ava we did have a great website but it was run by TechSoup, our former sponsor, and took forever to get it transferred to AvaCon our current Sponsor and Rhi’s organization
[10:39] Ava Dougall: ah I see
[10:39] Rhiannon Chatnoir: well and is on an OOOOOOLD version fo Drupal and still hosted elsewhere… we have the domain but need to totally move the site and what platform it is on
[10:40] Rhiannon Chatnoir: we want to have it be wordpress which is easier for folks
[10:40] Buffy Beale: so, it’s taking a long time but will be done eventually. It’s like anything with volunteers, it takes time and effort but we do need to address it, it’s our real world front face next to facebook
[10:40] Rhiannon Chatnoir: and we did install wordpress and have that as a shell to start from, but need help bringing over content
[10:41] Rhiannon Chatnoir: this was the wordpress install as a staging site http://nonprofitcommons.avacon.org/
[10:41] Buffy Beale: Rhi maybe it’s best to make up a project plan of the steps needed to transfer and update, then we can assign folks who want to help
[10:42] Buffy Beale: or, what I was thinking was use some of Think’s donation and hire a web person to do it
[10:42] Zinnia Zauber: This is such a great example of how we have lots of talented volunteers who want to help promote the work we do inworld and out.
[10:42] Buffy Beale: create a new look and website, and can lead the transfer project
[10:42] Rhiannon Chatnoir: I think honestly we need to sort what main content we need.. and then work on the getting over whatever we can of old posts content to a second/ongoing phase.. that is the part that is onerous
[10:42] Zinnia Zauber: Getting the word out is totally high on our list and super to see Path echo that.
[10:43] Zinnia Zauber: We will put that on our agenda for our Monday meeting to get action happening on that.
[10:43] Buffy Beale: So Rhi how be we hire a coordinator then to help with the transfer and updated site
[10:45] Buffy Beale: anyways we can talk about this at the board meeting if you can add it to the agenda please Z
[10:45] Rhiannon Chatnoir: we still need to hire for community support to do a lot of the prior community manager stuff, like taking these transcripts, blogging them, dedicatedly doing outreach, etc
[10:45] Zinnia Zauber: Yes, added.
[10:45] Rhiannon Chatnoir: we arent having one on Monday are we? the holiday
[10:45] Zinnia Zauber: Who is going on holiday?
[10:45] Buffy Beale: that’s great, then first we get the website updated and can go from there
[10:45] Buffy Beale: it’s not a holiday here in Canada
[10:45] Rhiannon Chatnoir: family things still.. even if people cant travel.. I know I have to
[10:46] Ava Dougall: I feel like a clear list of the groups involved here with links to their websites if applicable and also direct SLURLS from the website would be what I as someone considering entering would be looking for. and also the announcements and descriptions for weekly meetings like you do on FB on front page
[10:46] Rhiannon Chatnoir: I don’t ask folks to volunteer or staff on holidays
[10:46] Buffy Beale: Yes Ava that all used to be on our website so good idea
[10:47] Rhiannon Chatnoir: thanks Ava, yes even simple phase of that would be helpful start
[10:47] Buffy Beale: we also had reasons and testimonies of why to join, the benefits etc
[10:47] Rhiannon Chatnoir: a lot of that died when wikispaces closed down
[10:47] Buffy Beale: and the tenant rules
[10:47] Buffy Beale: yeah that was a shame for sure
[10:47] Rhiannon Chatnoir: Frans took a text backup, but the wiki held a lot of that.. that wasn’t our fault.. just other platforms closing
[10:48] Buffy Beale: yes there’s been a lot of reasons for the delay for sure
[10:48] Buffy Beale: but it’s time 🙂
[10:48] Ava Dougall: yes… all needed. sigh yes so distressing when wikis and sites close that are holding important info
[10:48] Elli Pinion: No one is at fault.  Things happen.
[10:48] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes, wikispaces was a big one for many
[10:48] Rhiannon Chatnoir: the nature of wikis being repositories of info.. then to go poof 🙁
[10:49] Ava Dougall: right? 🙁
[10:49] Ava Dougall: is it there on the Internet Archive / WayBackMachine?
[10:50] Rhiannon Chatnoir: I would say next step should be about compiling new content that will go on the site.. we can do that with google docs and we can chat on that in next board meeting
[10:50] Buffy Beale: Rhi has a copy of everything, but it’s in an older version
[10:50] Rhiannon Chatnoir: so list of members, and map out and flesh out other content for the site.. that is helpful and then can be plugged in where we want to the structure
[10:50] Rhiannon Chatnoir: Frans Charming did a backup of the text
[10:51] Ava Dougall: ah great
[10:51] Buffy Beale: I have another meeting so have to scramble but great meeting today Rhi, thanks
[10:51] Zinnia Zauber: Yes, I have another meeting as well.
[10:52] Zinnia Zauber: Thank you to all the mentors and supporting the goals of NPC.
[10:52] Rhiannon Chatnoir: are you sending out the transcript before you hop
[10:52] Rhiannon Chatnoir: ?
[10:52] Zinnia Zauber: We are grateful for your support!
[10:52] Ava Dougall: take care Buffy and Zinnia- thank you xo
[10:52] Buffy Beale: will do almost finished it 🙂
[10:52] Elli Pinion: Thanks everyone, great meeting.
[10:52] Eyeclectic: Dear Friends, Don’t know where to start, or how to articulate my thoughts as fast as they flow in type! Crossing the bridge of words between Vision and Reality has long been my greatest challenge! What Pathfinder says about creating Space for Serendipity and CommUnity is most !mportant! Typing, and trying to follow type, looking up and down, is like texting and driving, it makes me feel very anxious, with my brain in danger of crashing! Agree with Ava, about newcomer friendly things we discussed, and Happy to help, where able. ALL is reliant on electron flow ~ Watch me go poof! : )
[10:52] Zinnia Zauber: Thank you Ava!
[10:52] Zinnia Zauber: Wonderful, Eyeclectic!
[10:52] Rhiannon Chatnoir: thanks Eye
[10:52] Rhiannon Chatnoir: yes, take care everyone
[10:53] Rhiannon Chatnoir: have a fantastic weekend
[10:53] Zinnia Zauber: Yes, let’s focus on that information and support for new and old.
[10:53] Zinnia Zauber: Thank you all and please take care!
[10:53] Zinnia Zauber: We have a field trip for next week
[10:53] Zinnia Zauber: and more after that
[10:53] Zinnia Zauber: So we can see what SL can do!
[10:53] Ozma Malibu: I know a lot of artists in RL, thinking of what we might do
[10:54] Ozma Malibu: bye now
[10:54] Zinnia Zauber: Yes, Ozma! That is why we started the NPC Art Walk! Great minds! Thank you all and please take care!!!
[10:54] Eyeclectic: Thank you ALL for ALL you do for ALL! ~>POOF<~
[10:54] Zinnia Zauber: Hugs!!!
[10:55] Buffy Beale: Hugs!
