No Nonprofit Commons Meeting for Friday September 2nd

Nonprofit Commons in Second Life will not be hosting a weekly meeting this week due to the Labor Day holiday weekend in the US

Exploring Microsoft HoloLens for Training & Learning for July 29th Nonprofit Commons Meeting

This Friday, July 29th, TechSoup’s NonProfit Commons in Second Life will feature Kyle Gomboy presenting on how smart holograms for training, education, business and entertainment will change the way we perceive our digital information. Holograms that are driven by human action, computer vision, computer learning and big data are the focus of developing for tools like Microsoft’s HoloLens

 

Kyle “G” Gomboy, a former aerospace test engineer and virtual and mixed reality world developer for 15+ years, now leads a new startup “Wavelength” to explore the commercial and educational uses of devices like Microsoft’s HoloLens headset.

Transitioning Your Project to OpenSimulator for July 22nd Nonprofit Commons Meeting

This Friday, July 22nd, TechSoup’s NonProfit Commons in Second Life  will feature Selby Evans, Thinkerer Melville in SL, who will discuss how you can transition to OpenSimulator. OpenSimulator is an open source virtual world, similar to Second Life. He will go over the differences between both virtual world platforms, what to expect when transitioning, how you transfer assets, and where to find community and resources.

 

Selby Evans (Thinkerer Melville) is a retired professor of Psychology who taught courses in psychological measurement, computer applications, and systematic problem solving. and conducted research in pattern perception, and studies of cognitive systems, supported by U. S. Military organizations, NASA, National Institutes of Health, and other government organizations.  He also operated a consulting business for 25 years, serving various companies and government agencies.

Professional Networking for You and Your Org for July 15th Nonprofit Commons Meeting

This Friday, July 15th, TechSoup’s NonProfit Commons in Second Life will feature Beth O’Connell, M.Ed. (Beth Ghostraven in SL) who will go through tips and practices for professional networking online and within Second Life for both you and your nonprofit, library, or educational organizations and groups. She will go over actionable things you can use to cultivate professional connections to benefit your work and learning possibilities. 

Beth O’Connell (Beth Ghostraven in SL) is in her 19th year of being a school librarian and has worked with Kindergarten through 12th-grade students. She has a Bachelor of Science in Education degree from George Mason University and a Master of Education (School Library Media) degree from James Madison University.
