Recreating Cretaceous Sea Creatures in Second Life for the September 19th NonProfit Commons Meeting

This Friday, September 19thTechSoup’s NonProfit Commons in Second Life will feature Jeroen Frans (Frans Charming in SL), virtual world specialist and founder of The Vesuvius Group. This summer, The American Museum of Natural History hosted a summer camp for teens where they studied Cretaceous Era fish and then learned to scientifically model them. As part of this project, The Vesuvius Group created a tool in Second Life to help the youth easily create models of the creatures they were studying, and release them into an interactive underwater environment. Jeroen will discuss the project, talk about the tool, what they learned, the hurdles they had to overcome, and finally we will get the opportunity to try the creation tool out.
